Deon Paul Malan is 53 years of age and is married to Iona. They have two children, Monique (27) and Ivana (17). Deon accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Saviour at a CSSM meeting at the age of nine when he realised that he needed a personal salvation and not rely on that of his parents.
Deon was reared at the Battswood Baptist Church where he grew and was disciple as a Christian. He was employed as Postmaster for the Department of Post & Telecommunications. He was active in the local church and served as a Sunday School teacher/Superintendent, Youth Leader, Choir Master, Outreach Ministry and Deacon.
Whilst studying at the Cape Town Baptist Seminary, he was Student Pastor at Schornville Baptist (KWT) and Ebenezer Baptist, Cape Town. On graduation, he continued to pastor the Ebenezer Church for five years prior to accepting a call as Senior Pastor to Northpine Baptist. He served as a BMD Missionary with the Marrakech International Protestant Church in Morocco before returning to South Africa, where he served as Interim Senior Pastor at Northpine. He is currently Pastor at Gleemoor Baptist.
Deon has faithfully served the Baptist Union and the WPBA as Chairman of the WPBA Missions Advance Committee and as an Executive member and President of the WPBA. He has also served the WPBA representative on the BU Missions Board and the BUSA Executive. Deon has always focused on lay ministry during his service in different churches and he believes that the Bible is clear about the ministry of the Body and the involvement of all its church members.
As the BUSA “Local Church Alive” focus for 2013-2014 is “Local Church Missions”, he will strongly urge and encourage churches at every level of ministry, from the youngest to the eldest, to understand that Missions is NOT another programme of the Local Church but, as relates to our Global Impact Thrust, is the nerve and lifeblood of each church. We need to discover that God has a plan for the world and WE are the channels for that plan.
