BU Special Day of Prayer: Thank you to the churches who participated in the Officers’/Executives’ special call to prayer and fasting on Sunday 23 April. Some good reports/positive responses were received. Pray for the Special Executive meetings to be held from 15-17 May at the Baptist campsite regarding the BUSA’s future.
BU Partnership with Kenya: Our partnership with Kenyan Baptists was taken to another level. The BWD Director presented certificates to 230 women and 10 men of the Ushindi Baptist Church, Mombasa at a special service held at the church on 23 April. All completed 3 books of the Bible Way series (Who is Jesus? Mark 1; and Mark 2) and are able to recite 36 memory verses! 34 folk, including 9 Muslims, made first-time commitments to Christ at 4 nights of open-air meetings in the Muslim village of Ushindi. The GS was also privileged to minister at the opening of the Kenyan Baptist Convention annual Assembly in Nairobi on 25 April. A special word of thanks to the individuals who kindly sponsored his travel.
The BWD Director was also involved in two days of teaching and training with the women of the Addis Kidan Baptist Association in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 24-25 April.
CTBS student/pastors wives ministry: The first of 3 meetings for the year was held on Saturday 6 May at the Seminary. Approximately 25 folk were in attendance and Aujke Bouwer addressed them on the topic ‘Spiritual Warfare - Know your Enemy.’ Naomi Scheepers represented the BWD at the event. The ministry is spearheaded by the Principal’s wife, Colleen Rinquest.
Local Church News
The Machibini Baptist Fellowship is part of the Mount Ayliff Baptist circuit. The little building in the photo was paid for by 4 elderly women who could no longer travel/walk 5 kms to Mount Ayliff. They built this church to allow them to worship closer to home. There are only women in the congregation.
Port Alfred Baptist (EPBA) reported positively on the mission team of 9 who were involved in Lusikisiki and Canzibe in the Transkei at the beginning of April. Their purpose was to spy out the land and meet with potential pastors with whom the church could partner in the future.
WPBA: The Association held their Easter Tea for retired pastoral couples and widows at the Pinelands Baptist Church. The Athlone, South Riding, Gleemoor, Emmanuel and Blomvlei Road Baptist churches held a combined Passion Week from Sunday 9-Thursday 13 April. All gathered at one of the churches each night and the local pastor of that church ministered. A special combined choir ministered each evening.
The WPBA Co-ordinator and BU President concluded the event at the Blomvlei Road Baptist Church. The Harare, New Crossroads, Mfuleni and Great Commission churches in Cape Town held combined Easter services. On Easter Saturday, they held a special street outreach in Town 2, Khayelitsha. On Sunday 30 April, 11 youth groups gathered at the Eastridge Baptist Church. The theme for the evening was “Let’s behold Him.”
Congratulations to: Clayton and Lauren Alexander, on their induction as the Associate pastoral couple at Gleemoor Baptist Church; John and Jean Erasmus, who retired after 40 years of ministry at the Southern Hills Baptist Church, Cape Town; Godfrey and Patricia Harold (CTBS) on their induction as Ministers of Christian Education, specifically for children and youth, at the Athlone Baptist Church; Rudi and Lizelle Botha, on their induction into the pastorate of Open Baptist, Hartebeespoort.
